Smoothies: the Ideal Breakfast & Dessert

Smoothie bowls are some of the best meals for packing in lots of nutrients, fiber, and other vitamins. They’re ideal for breakfast, and even dessert! Our hearty nutty banana smoothie bowl contains loads of protein, carbs, healthy fats, and pure deliciousness.

My favorite thing about smoothie bowls is the freedom to use as many different toppings and mix-ins as I please. Topping options are essentially limitless, but my go-to’s include nuts, seeds, and granola.

For this recipe, use whichever kinds of nuts and seeds that you have on hand. I use pecans and walnuts. Almonds, peanuts, and cashews taste fabulous as well.

If you experiment with different nut/seed butters, make sure to let us know which one you like best!

Recommendations & Tips

  • Use ripe or overripe bananas to achieve that sweet, rich banana flavor for your smoothie.

  • Use high-protein plant milk, such as flax, if you want a higher protein smoothie to keep you feeling fuller and more satisfied. Additionally, add a scoop or two of your favorite protein powder if you want to up the ante. Our favorite plant-based protein brand is KOS!

  • NUT-FREE: For people with nut allergies, turn this recipe into a super seedy banana smoothie bowl! Swap out nut butter for sunflower butter and top with flax seeds, hemp seeds, and pumpkin seeds. It’ll taste absolutely delicious!
